UX Design … At All Costs

You may have heard of the term …UX design. It’s a great little short cut name that designers and developers use for the ‘User’s Experience’ on a website.

Right now in St. Augustine, Florida, we are nearing Saint Valentine’s Day where we celebrate love! I come from a family who really cares about gift giving and making people feel special. At the end of the day people will always remember how you make them feel. As a grandmother (they call me Bami, Bam, or Bam Bam)to six kiddos it’s important to me to give them a great experience.

With the big LOVE day approaching fast I realized earlier this week that I was not going to get their very snazzy Valentines cards there in time that I had carefully selected a week ago (yes, they were sitting on my desk in a bag…out of site, out of mind). With a lot of hope, I trudged to the Post Office and fortunately had no line. I asked if the cards would arrive on Valentine’s Day and she looked at me with mildly sarcastic look and said “no”.

I imagined the kids going through Valentine’s Day, then going to school next week and finding a card in the mail four days late. NOT good enough. This is where UX comes in…How can I turn this around? I quickly decided that I had an opportunity. I asked the Postal Clerk if I could put them in a two day envelope so they would get there in time. She looked up the zip code and to my relief, she said YES!!! The next thing I did is ask her for three Valentine’s Day stamps to put on their envelopes. It was important that the letters were mailed individually!!! I carefully chose out the most artistic heart filled stamps and placed them on each envelope. At this point the postal clerk was shaking her head in disbelief not understanding why I would waste money on three perfectly good stamps. The moral of the story is “at the end of the day, I got the job done”. The kids will now be able to have their cards on THE day and their UX will be great.

I tell you this story to :

  1. Explain a little about UX design (to go into it more will be a whole new blog).
  2. To let you know what our mindset is when it comes to taking care of the Copper Coin Web Design clients.
  3. Our approach to designing a website is really thinking about the user experience (UX design) when we are putting it together.

UX matters! As you can see below, the effort was worth it!

The Bridge of Lions

This is the original bridge and it was taken by me during the time of my art gallery, Cousart, Studios of Fine Art and Photography. The bridge has since been remodeled into a new structure that looks very similar to this original structure.

Go Fish Clothing & Jewelry

This is a photo inside our store. It was a difficult 10 years where I learned so much, but could not have been happier to close the doors when our contract was up

A Palm by Jim Draper

Jim Draper is one of my favorite Jacksonville artists and I was honored to have him and his work in my gallery when that was open in downtown Saint Augustine

Pulling Muscles from a Shell

This is one of my current paintings. I would say it’s not yet quite finished. Being from New Zealand, the green lip muscle is a great favorite of mine, especially if they are fresh right from the beach

Love Your Mother Recycled Fashion Show

For years Cousart Studios of Fine Art & photography was the official photographer for Panache Hair Salon’s Love your mother recycled fashion show in St. Augustine
